The country's largest grassroots medical marijuana advocacy group, Americans for Safe Access (ASA), launched a first-of-its-kind, free iPhone application today that will provide a vast array of tools for people new to the issue as well as for seasoned activists. ASA teamed up with iWeeds -- an application company that serves the medical marijuana community -- in order to make it easier for advocates to get educated and take political action. The ASA Advocate App gives users access to all of the organization's projects and programs.
Specifically, the ASA Advocacy App will provide immediate updates on rapidly changing local, state, and federal issues across the country to keep users on top of the latest in medical marijuana politics, science, law and community action. In addition to ASA news feeds, users will also have easy access to political action alerts, video advocacy trainings, and ASA's printed publications, such as newsletters, condition-based booklets, and legal manuals, all from their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices. The ASA Advocate App even guides users to businesses in their community that support the work of ASA.
The ASA Advocate App will also allow users to become members of the organization's 50,000-strong grassroots network. And, because of the heightened concern over federal interference in medical marijuana states, the ASA Advocate App connects users to a legal hotline and enables them to sign up for raid alerts and activist phone trees. The ASA Advocate App is currently only accessible from Apple devices, but will be expanded to Android and other application markets over the next few months.
Since 2002, ASA has been educating patients, doctors, lawyers, scientists, key decision-makers, and the general public on issues concerning medical marijuana. The organization has also used lobbying and litigation over the years to help achieve the goals of protecting and expanding the rights of medical marijuana patients across the U.S.

iPhone Web App: Save Web Pages with iWebSaver for Off-Line Viewing on your iPhone
Folks at iWebsaver has figured out an ingenious way to save web pages to your iPhone or iPod Touch for off-line viewing. They have been able to achieve this by converting the entire page to a data URL.
This makes iWebSaver an ideal iPhone web application to have if you want to do some off-line reading on your iPhone or iPod touch.
If you are wondering what a data URL is here is a brief description courtesy Wiki - The data: URI scheme defined in IETF standard is an URI scheme that allows inclusion of small data items inline, as if they were being referenced to as an external resource. They tend to be far simpler than alternative inclusion methods, such as MIME with cid: or mid:. According to the wording in the RFC, data: URIs are in fact URLs, although they do not actually locate anything.
iWebsaver provides two options to save web pages:
Option 1:
For this you need to do is follow 4 simple steps:
1. Visit iWebSaver.
2. Type in a URL (in the edit box above the "Save it now" button).
3. Tap "Save it Now".
4. When the website loads up completely choose "Add Bookmark" or "Add to Home Screen".
If you are looking to save a large page, you could even try out the Advanced mode.
However, in my opinion the problem using this option is that if you are looking to save a page with a long URL then you need to have the patience to type the entire URL manually which can get quite painful especially without the copy and paste functionality in the iPhone or iPod Touch.
Option 2:
The second option is a faster alternative called iWebSaver favelet with which you can save webpages with just two taps. Just click the following link iWebSaver favelet from your iPhone or iPod Touch and follow the instructions or just drag the following link iWebSaver favlet to your bookmarks or favorites on your computer and then sync your bookmarks to your iPhone or iPod Touch using iTunes.
Once you're ready to start using the iWebSaver favelet all you need to do is click on the iWebsaver bookmark whenever you're on a webpage that you want to save. I would recommend that you try out this option rather than the first one.
I tried this iPhone Web App for iPhone Hacks and it worked very well, however in case of some websites it was giving problems saving the web pages. This is probably due to some of the limitations of using data URLs as not all pages are suitable. You could check out this link to find out some of the reasons a page might not save as a data URL:
Also do remember that larger pages will take sometime to load, so be patient and larger pages also means that its "data: URL" will occupy more space on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

iPhone Hack brings Speed dial to the iPhone
I seemed to have missed a clever little hack from iPhone hacking genius Nate True which helps you put speed dial numbers on the iPhone Firmware 1.1.3 home screen.
The hack makes use of the feature where you can now add web clips/bookmarks to your iPhone's home screen that was introduced in iPhone firmware 1.1.3.
Here are the instructions on how to add speed dial numbers on the iPhone running firmware v1.1.3:
- Enter the URL: (phone number).tel.QLNK.net in iPhone's Safari browser then go to the page.
- You’ll get a “Call” pop-up — hit cancel.
- Now you will be at a Web page with the URL you entered in step 1.
- Tap the “+” button at the bottom of the screen, then tap “Add to Home Screen”.
- Enter the Name of the Web clip and and save the bookmark.
When you want to speed dial the number you have just saved as a web clip, all you need to do is tap twice - once on the icon on your home screen and then once in Safari which loads the dialling page to hit "Call".
Kindly note that .tel.QLNK.net is a custom server hosted by Nate True and he has put the following privacy warning:
Due to the nature of this hack, your phone will request this page when you create a speed dial icon on your home screen. I assure you I will not use this data AT ALL FOR ANY REASON. It is entirely possible to put a similar script on your own web server, which will do the same thing without sending me any information; that course of action is recommended if you are at all concerned about your privacy.
Nate True has recently even changed the implementation of the iPhone hack such that the page returns a data URL, which does not contact Nate True's server every time you hit the icon - just the first time when you create it. The dialling page is now stored locally on your iPhone.

iPhone: Enable Ringtones in iTunes
Purchasing ringtones for your iPhone through iTunes is now possible. However, many people are not seeing it as an option.
First of all, be sure that you have updated to the latest iTunes software. In OS X you can update from the iTunes menu and then Check for Updates. In XP/Vista you will find the update option from the Help menu.
Next, you will need to enable the Ringtone view. From the View menu, select View Options.
From the dialog box, select the Ringtone option and click the OK button.

You will asked if you want your music library searched for potential ringtones. Select the Check Songs button.
Now in your iTunes library, you will see a bell beside the songs for that you can purchase a ringtone.

iPhone: Automatic sleep mode
To give you iPhone a curfew, tap the Clock icon on the home screen:
n the Clock screen, tap the lower right Timer icon (if it's not already selected). The resulting Timer screen will show the Price-is-Right tumblers to set the countdown time in hours and minutes:
Also visible on this screen are the "When Timer Ends" and "Start" buttons. Tap the "When Timer Ends" button and at the top of this list of sounds is a special option, Sleep iPod.
Tap the Sleep iPod option and then tap Set. Review your settings and tap Start on the Timer screen.
iPhone: Transfer Pictures from iPhone to XP
I looked and looked through iTunes to figure out how to transfer pictures from my iPhone. I was looking in the wrong place.
XP will treat the iPhone like a digital camera device. Therefore, any computer program that will sync to and from digital cameras to a windows box can be used to move the pics over.
If you do not have a program that transfers pictures from digital cameras, you can use window's Scanner and Camera Wizard...
1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Select Accessories
4. Select Scanner and Camera Wizard
5. Select the iPhone out of your potential devices.
6. If you want to be able to manually copy pictures over in an explorer-like interface, click the advanced users only link. If you want to copy pictures over in a little wizard-like interface, click Next.
Using either the explorer or wizard interfaces will allow you to delete pictures as well. Using this method is obviously a lot quicker than deleting the pictures manually on the iPhone itself.
